Why are they so important?

When deciding upon a bull, it is important to remember that one bull is half your herd if you have less than 40 cows.  So, on those four feet rest 50% of the genetics of your future herd.  When considering your purchase of a bull and when researching where to buy your bull, realize that:

the cows show where a breeder's program is genetically,

the bull shows where that breeder's program is going.
